On the 30th, Softbank Hawks announced that it will launch the "FUKUOKA OH SADAHARU LEGACY PROJECT" (abbreviated as Oh Legacy Project), which will begin with Oh Sadaharu's journey in Fukuoka as a coach and chairman, and will pass on The Hawks 'baseball history and spirit that he built under Oh Sadaharu to the next generation.
The Oh Legacy Project is an initiative to pass on the "The Hawks culture" that has been built up with the players, people involved, and the local community who have supported professional baseball in Fukuoka, symbolized by Oh Sadaharu, not just as a record or memory of the past, but as a "regional legacy" that can be received and passed on to the next generation. The project will work to establish the history that Oh Sadaharu and other players pioneered in Fukuoka and the ideals they embodied as part of Fukuoka's sports culture.
On May 24th, during the game against Nippon-Ham, "OH SADAHARU LEGACY DAY" (abbreviated as Oh Legacy Day) will be held as a symbolic day to share the journey and spirit of Oh Sadaharu with fans and the local community. All players will wear the "FUKUOKA OH SADAHARU LEGACY PROJECT special jersey" with number "89" and replica jersey with the same design will be distributed to spectators. In addition, there will be events and special performances on the day to create an opportunity to experience the inheritance of baseball culture.
number "89" is specially positioned as a number that symbolizes the "baseball of The Hawks" that has been built by Mr. Sadaharu Oh and others.
▼ Kenji Jojima, CBO
"Through this project, I hope that number 89 will become a special one for Fukuoka. Chairman Wang is an invaluable presence for the team, and we have learned a lot from him. Going forward, I hope to use his knowledge in team building, and through games and events, together with the city of Fukuoka, to pass on this wonderful tradition to the next generation."
▼ Chairman Oh Sadaharu
"Although this project bears my name, I feel that it is actually a collection of the accumulated passion of many people who have been involved with The Hawks. I would be delighted if this initiative could serve as a catalyst for The Hawks, sports, and baseball to continue to take root naturally in Fukuoka."
