Contreras commented through the team, "I'm happy to finally be in Japan. I'm tired from the long trip, but I'm excited to be in Japan. I look forward to seeing everyone on the team soon."
Contreras is from the Dominican Republic. He is a right-handed batter and thrower, standing 185 cm tall and weighing 92 kg. He turned pro with the Yankees in 2016, and played for the Pirates and other teams before joining the Rockies last season. He was selected to represent the Dominican Republic in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, where Japan won.
