Nippon-Ham outfielder Haruki Nishikawa (33) participated in early voluntary training in Nago, Okinawa on the 29th, and held his first outdoor batting practice since rejoining the team on the 28th. This marks his first return to his former team in five years. His teammate at the time, Yuki Kiyomiya, served as his partner for catch and tee-hitting. "It's been years since I've done early voluntary training, so while I'm reminiscing a bit about the past, I'm also doing it with a fresh feeling. There are hardly any players I know, so I'll have to remember their names, and maybe I'll have to get them to remember me," he said, imagining playing in a rejuvenated "new world" under manager Shinjo.
He will start camp with the first team. This season marks his 16th year, and the number 7 player is starting with a new mindset, saying, "I hope to use this camp to truly discover a new me and evolve even more. I'm already 34 years old, so I may not be the Nishikawa Haruki that everyone knows, but I hope to take my first step as a cool older man."
