Samurai Japan manager Hirokazu Ibata (50) held a press conference in Tokyo on the 26th and announced additional members of the Japanese national team that will participate in the World Baseball Classic (WBC) to be held in March, and Orix Buffaloes Hiroya Miyagi pitcher Daiya Miyagi (24) was selected, following the previous tournament.

In the previous tournament, he made his first appearance as the third pitcher in the first round match against the Czech Republic, pitching well for five innings, allowing only one runs, and recording a save. Although he only pitched in one game, after the tournament he looked back with a smile and said, "It was a great asset for my future baseball career."

Last season, Miyagi succeeded number 18 of Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitcher who moved to the Dodgers in the 23rd offseason, but finished with only 7 wins (3 losses). He is expected to play a full part in the team's bid for a first league championship in three years, but this year he will first swing his arm for a back-to-back Samurai Japan title.
