Softbank Hawks outfielder Ukyo Shuto appeared at a talk show hosted by medical equipment manufacturer Colantotte in Fukuoka Prefecture on the 24th. He had just signed a five-year, 2 billion yen contract on the 23rd. While he has essentially given up on his dream of playing in the majors, he spoke about MLB once again, saying, "I like watching major league games, and I've watched (Mets player) Senga, so I'm more interested in it than whether I'll be able to go or not." He also revealed that former major league player Kenji Jojima, the Chief Baseball Officer, had previously said to him in casual conversation, "It'd be interesting if a player like you (who is known for his speed) went."
After his contract renewal on the 23rd, Shuto spoke about his plans to challenge the majors, saying, "When I thought about my age (I'll be 30 in February) and the various injuries I've had, I realized that it would be difficult, not just in terms of my ability."
