Nippon-Ham Fighters manager Tsuyoshi Shinjo (53) shared his opinion on base-base running gloves at a meeting of all 12 professional baseball team managers held in Tokyo on the 20th.
The base-base running gloves worn by runner to prevent injury can sometimes be as large as a potholder. Manager Shinjo said, "There are some guys who have really long gloves. They have to make sure they're good at it. I can tell them to make them one centimeter longer," claiming that larger gloves allow runners to get closer to the base and are therefore advantageous.
"Maybe I'll try it secretly. I'll say, 'I have nail polish,' or 'I made it long because it would break.' That's a violation, right? Are there violations like that?" he joked, drawing laughter from the press.
