The Houston Astros announced on the 2nd (3rd Japan time) that they have signed Tatsuya Imai, who was aiming to transfer to the majors from Seibu Lions via the posting system, to a three-year contract that includes an opt-out option for the player after the 2026 and 2027 seasons.

Imai joined Seibu as the first pick in the 2016 draft. In his second year in 2018, he pitched in 15 games, including his professional debut, and recorded five wins. In his third year in 2019, he established himself in the starting rotation, with a record of 7 wins and 9 losses and ERA 4.32. In 2021, he reached the required innings pitched for the first time, finishing with a record of 8 wins and 8 losses and ERA of 3.30. From 2023, he had double-digit win for three consecutive years, and in 2024, he won the title for most strike out with 187 strike out.

Last season, he pitched in 24 games and 163 2/3 innings with a record of 10 wins and 5 losses, 178 strike out, and a 1.92 ERA. In his NPB career, he pitched in 159 games and 963 2/3 innings with a record of 58 wins and 45 losses, 907 strike out, and a 3.15 ERA.

Japanese players who have played for the team in the past include Matsui Kazuo (2008-2010), Aoki Norichika (2017), and Kikuchi Yusei (2024).
