Seibu Lions Seiya Watanabe of the Seibu defense practices fielding at third base.

On the 25th, it was decided that Seibu Lions Lions outfielder Seiya Watanabe (23) will move to third base next season. Manager Nishiguchi revealed, "For now, I think he'll be playing third base."

The position change is a result of him establishing himself as a key player in the batting lineup. In his senior year at Osaka University of Commerce, he played third baseman base, but in order to focus more on batting, he started the season as the "number 5 hitter and left fielder," playing in 109 games with a batting average of .259. The manager explained, "By moving (Watanabe) Seiya to third base, we don't know if a foreign player or rookie Akiyama, Hase (Hasegawa), or Tono (Tonosaki) will take the one outfield spot, so it will give opportunities to various players. It will also add depth to the batting lineup."

Tonosaki, who started a team-high 63 games at third base this season, has been playing more in right field since the middle of the season, and it is highly likely that he will continue to play in outfield next season. Watanabe Sei is full of enthusiasm, saying, "I think it will broaden my range as a player, so I want to approach it positively." (Ayami Onaka)
