Orix Buffaloes acquired outfielder Shota Hiranuma from Seibu Lions in the active player draft. He joined Nippon-Ham as the fourth pick in the 2015 draft from Tsuruga Keibo High School, then transferred to Seibu Lions via trade midway through the 2021 season. This season, his 10th year as a pro, he had a batting average of .218 with 11 RBI in 60 games. While registered as outfield, he is a versatile player who can also play infield defense except shortstop. In this season's game Orix Buffaloes, he recorded a batting average of .344, his highest in a single game. GM Junichi Fukura commented, "I think we got the player we were looking for. He can play multiple positions. Even in terms of batting, we've been pretty beaten this year." Manager Mamoru Kishida also expressed his expectations, saying, "He's still young (at 28 years old). I think he has a lot of potential, so I hope he'll do his best with us."
