On the 6th, Orix Buffaloes manager Mamoru Kishida (44) declared that he will continue to chew gum next season! He attended the 48th Hankyu-Orix Buffaloes Alumni General Meeting at a hotel in Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture, and reported that the team finished third in his first year in office. Alumni chairman Hisashi Yamada (77) pointed out to Kishida, "The team lost momentum a bit midway through the season, and Kishida's gum-eating vigor has gradually increased (laughs)," to which Kishida appeared embarrassed.

"I got teased about it... (laughs). I guess my chewing speed has improved, because people often say that," he said. He emphasized once again that the item he has considered an "essential" since his active days has a relaxing effect. "I chew when I'm thinking about something. The speed is unconscious (laughs). I'll keep chewing gum," he modestly revealed.

Chairman Yamada gave a cheer, saying, "We'll just be cheering you on from behind, saying, 'Come on, do your best!' If we can successfully combine new talent with veterans and mid-level players, we'll become a team that can compete all year round." Inspired by the thoughts of his great predecessor, the manager gave an impassioned speech on stage. "Next season, we'll aim to win. We'll do our best to make Orix Buffaloes even more exciting."
