It was revealed on the 5th that Seibu Lions is conducting a full-scale investigation into acquiring pitcher Rei Takahashi (30), who was released from The Giants. General Manager Hiroike stated, "We are moving in the direction of acquiring him." Negotiations have already been held multiple times, and it is believed that he will be acquired on a development player contract.
Takahashi joined Softbank Hawks as the second pick in the 2017 draft from Senshu University. He transferred to The Giants in the offseason of 2011 and was in the opening rotation in 2012, but did not make a first-team appearance this season and was notified that he was no longer needed.
The general manager explained, "In Takahashi's case, he's both a starter and a reliever, and he's a rare underhand pitcher. He's had some struggles in recent years, but it seems like he has some issues to work on, so we're actively considering acquiring him, taking that into consideration as well."
