Rakuten announced on August 28 that it has signed Chia-Hao Sung pitcher (33) to a contract for the next season. He had been a member of the reliever team for four consecutive years until last season, pitching in more than 40 games, but he missed the start of this season due to right knee surgery in February, and was registered for the first time on August 29. He made 10 appearances, the second fewest of his career, and finished with 1 win, 1 save, 2 hold and ERA 3.72.

Chia-Hao Sung joined the team on a development contract in 2016, and was signed as a regular player in 2017. Next year will be his 11th season. "My family and I both love Sendai in Tohoku, and we are truly grateful for the warm welcome we have always received in this city. Above all else, I want to stay healthy and enter next season as Chia-Hao Sung in top condition. I will continue to give my all for the team, so I hope to see you again next year," he commented.
