On the 26th, Orix Buffaloes pitcher Soichiro Yamazaki attended contract renewal negotiations at the players' dormitory in Konohana Ward, Osaka City, and signed a contract for 45 million yen, a 15% reduction from his current salary of 53 million yen (estimated amount). "I went back and forth between the first and second teams quite a bit, so I wouldn't say it was a season I was satisfied with," he reflected. "But I ended up feeling good, so I want to improve even more and take on the challenge next year."
This season, he has been through three farm team adjustments, and has recorded two wins, one loss, four hold, and ERA 4.28 in 28 games. Nevertheless, he made his presence felt by successfully putting out bases-bases loaded, no-out fires in two consecutive games against Softbank on September 20th and 21st (at Mizuho PayPay Dome). When asked, "What if you pitch with the same bases-loaded, no-bases loaded situation next season?" he smiled and said, "It'd be better if it didn't happen (laughs). From a team perspective, it's best that such a situation doesn't occur. But if that situation does come up, and if I'm up to it, I want to do my best."
His goal for next season, his 10th year, is to play in the first team all year. This offseason, he plans to focus on his own training at Maishima in Osaka. The 160 km/h right-hander vowed to give it his all, saying, "My goal remains the same: 50 games. I'm aiming for the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings. I want to pitch in every situation and earn the trust of the team."
