Softbank Ryoya Kurihara infielder (29) underwent a transforaminal total endoscopic discectomy for a herniated right fifth lumbar sacral disc at an Amagasaki City hospital. He is expected to return to competition in two to three months.

Kurihara was removed from the active roster on July 3rd this season due to pain in his right side, and returned to the first team on August 29th. In 80 games, he had a batting average of .267, 8 Home Run, and 40 RBI. After his return, he played as a regular third baseman and contributed to the team's championship race, winning the monthly MVP award in September and October.
