Nippon-Ham Shun Mizutani outfielder (24) of the "K" LINE, Inc. He will not increase the amount of food he eats, but will focus mainly on training to strengthen his body, aiming for a larger, firmer body. This season, he was delayed by an injury to his left side just before the start of the season, and although he played only 87 games, he shot 12 , the most in his career. After the "evolutionary winter," he will accelerate his steady accumulation of skills at a rapid pace. Home Run

Mizutani, who has now changed his hairstyle to cornrows, wipes away sweat with a smile. After completing the special defense drill that lasted over an hour, he quenches his thirst with water. After completing the second day of autumn camp, when asked about the theme of the camp, he replied, "There are about 13 weeks until spring camp. Rather than camp, it's more of a theme for this winter. This winter, I want to train so that people who meet me for the first time in a while will think I've gotten bigger." He chose the theme of "growing bigger."

It's also a return to his roots. He joined Softbank as the fifth pick in the 2018 draft. In his first and second years as a pro, he worked hard on training to build his physique. As he got older, he focused on balance and how to use his body, incorporating Pilates last offseason. However, he expressed his determination, saying, "I'm going to go back to my first or second year and push myself hard again. Last year was all about getting to know my body, and I learned a lot from that, so I want to incorporate that and train hard this winter so I can evolve."

This was something he felt during the season. He was drafted by Nippon-Ham in the off-season of 2011. This season, despite playing 10 fewer games, he hit 12 Home Run and had 41 RBI, surpassing the previous year's (9 home runs, 39 RBI). "I was able to produce results that were comparable to the previous year's. I thought that this was the place to go to the next level, or even the next. When I think about going to an even higher level in two or three years, this will be an important step." Rather than gaining weight and building muscle through diet, he aims to scale up purely through training without changing his eating habits.

Before the training camp, Mizutani changed his pineapple hair style to cornrows, which he hasn't had since last year's All-Star Game. "It's a bit of a change of pace," he said with a laugh. In the new year, he will be training independently in Hawaii for the third year in a row, and plans to work on building a body that is bigger and more mobile so that it can run. Mizutani, who says that "big and mobile are the best athletes," will step into the top ranks with his body that has grown a size larger. (Yamaguchi Yasushi)
