After graduating from Sakushin Gakuin and Waseda University, Ishii joined Nippon-Ham as the second pick in the 2016 draft. In his ninth season this season, he played in 108 games as the starting second baseman, hitting six Home Run and posting a batting average of .259. Seibu Lions 's team batting average was the worst in the league at .232, and Ishii, who excelled in both batting and defense, was an essential piece in the team's bid to win their first championship since 2019.
