What is the Pacific League?
The Pacific League (abbreviated as PL)
is one of the two leagues that make up professional baseball in Japan.
Its vision is "professional baseball with an international perspective,"
and was founded in 1950 as the "Pacific Baseball Association."
In 1980, the name was simplified to "Pacific League," referring to the Pacific Ocean using an English loanword.
Currently there are six teams in the league, each playing 143 games.
